Who is the Course for?

The Local and Regional Economic Development (LRED) Programme provides a choice of three vocational professional qualifications. The Programme is suitable for a wide range of people:

  • Professionals already involved in economic development wishing to develop their knowledge, skill and competencies further.
  • Practitioners whose work covers elements of economic development.
  • Those who are new to economic development, wishing to broaden their understanding of the field.
  • Graduates in Politics, Economics, Sociology, Geography, and related subjects.
  • Practitioners in Local Authorities, Regional and Local Development, Strategic Partnerships, Businesses, Consultancies, Project Management.
  • Staff involved in Planning, Business Development, Regeneration, Sustainability.
  • Those working in other related areas e.g. Neighbourhood groups, Learning and Skills, Volunteers, and relevant Charities.
  • Those who have not studied for some time.

Catering for students from a broad spectrum of experience and skills, the support, resources and flexibility offered by the LRED Programme's distance learning approach gives students total control of their educational direction.

The LRED Programme is also invaluable to those wishing to develop within their organisation, designed to expand skill, knowledge and competencies in theory, policy and practice, maximising career prospects and enhancing their professional development.

Although the LRED Programme is UK based we welcome students throughout the world. However the programme principally examines UK and EU context and is also taught in English. Therefore any potential student needs to have English skills to at least the level of 6.5 LETS if English is not their first language. Arrangements can be made to take exams outside the UK, and the UK-based workshops offered as part of some of the modules are not mandatory.
