David Parsons - Sheffield Hallam University
Module Leader: Development, Appraisal and Impact Analysis
David has over 25 years' experience in the public sector, the private sector and academia.
David joined the staff of Sheffield Hallam University in 1991. He teaches real estate development, retail issues, town planning and housing design, and regularly presents papers to international conferences on urban issues such as regeneration processes, housing finance and gated communities.
David's work is widely published and he is active in two international research networks, the Interdisciplinary Environment Association, for whom he is a councillor and the Network for Research into Gated Communities and Private Governance. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Interdisciplinary Environmental Review and the University's journal, Built Environment Research Transactions. He is a consultant on retail planning mainly to public sector clients.
David's professional background is as a chartered surveyor and a town planner. He worked for several local authorities in regional and local planning, and finally as head of the Economic Initiatives Section of Rotherham Borough Council where he managed the team dealing with economic and social regeneration. For the next three years he worked in the private sector as associate director of Lyons Spawforth Urban Regeneration Ltd advising clients on large mixed development schemes.
