Increasing the UK employment rate to 80% Ready for Work

This document sets out how the next phase of welfare reform will make reality the Government’s vision by moving to a new system of active support rather than passive benefits to achieve

“a society in which as many people as possible can share in the rewards of work that go far beyond financial independence and include better health, family life and communities.”

While headlines have featured the declining age of the youngest child to trigger lone parents to actively seek work, the proposals also cover job seekers, disabled people, people with adverse health conditions and sustainable employment for other disadvantaged people.

The new delivery system features;

  • The central role of Job Centre Plus
  • Implementing employment programmes through partnership
  • Empowering local communities
  • Working with employers
  • Reform of the benefits system
  • The target is to increase the employment rate to 80% from the current 74% and puts full employment at the heart of anti-poverty strategy in the UK.
